The Lokal Link Spotlight: Bryce Realty Group

Community Isn't a Marketing Strategy. It's a Mindset.
If you own a local business, you've probably heard people say, "Get involved in your community."
It's good advice.
But what does that actually look like?
Does it mean sponsoring every event?
Donating to every fundraiser?
Showing up at every networking meeting?
Not necessarily.
At July's Lokal Lunch, LaDonna Jones Bryce, owner and broker of Bryce Realty Group, shared a perspective that gets to the heart of community involvement.
It starts with remembering that local business has never been just about transactions.
It's about relationships.
Your Customers Aren't Just Customers
One of the lessons LaDonna shared came from advice she received years ago:
"Be good to the people you do business with."
Simple words.
But when you stop to think about them, they change the way you approach business.
In a local community, your customers aren't anonymous names in a database.
They're your neighbors.
The parents you cheer beside on Friday nights.
The person you wave to at the grocery store.
The family sitting a few rows ahead of you at church.
You'll likely see them again tomorrow. And next month. And next year.
When you realize that, business becomes much more personal.
Think Beyond Your Own Business

When it came time to plan one of her marketing campaigns, LaDonna could have spent her advertising budget the way many businesses do.
Instead, she asked a different question:
How can this investment benefit more than just my business?
That question led to her Give Back Campaign.
She partnered with five locally owned businesses, purchased a set amount of their products, and then had those businesses give those items away to their customers.
The campaign certainly created awareness for Bryce Realty Group.
But something even better happened!
Five local businesses received support.
Hundreds of customers experienced an unexpected act of generosity.
The conversations that followed spread far beyond the campaign itself.
The Best Return Wasn't Measured in Sales
One of the stories LaDonna shared wasn't about closing a transaction, it was about people.
Someone stopped her at church just to say thank you.
Another person sent her a selfie holding the coffee they'd received.
Business owners shared how meaningful the support had been.
Those moments became a reminder that the most valuable return on investment isn't always something you can measure on a spreadsheet.
Sometimes it's trust. Sometimes it's goodwill. Sometimes it's simply becoming known as someone who genuinely cares about the people around you.
What Does Community Involvement Really Look Like?
Community involvement doesn't have to be complicated. It starts by asking different questions.
Instead of... "How can I promote my business?"
Try asking... How can my business encourage someone today?
Instead of... "What's the biggest audience I can reach?"
Ask... Who in my community could use my support?
Instead of looking for opportunities that only benefit your business, look for ways everyone wins! That shift changes everything.
You're Already Part of the Community
One of my favorite reminders from LaDonna's Spotlight was this:
When you're a local business owner, you don't clock out of your community at the end of the workday.
You live here.
You worship here.
Your kids go to school here.
Your employees shop here.
Your clients become your friends.
You're already part of the community.
Being involved isn't about adding one more thing to your to-do list. It's about recognizing the opportunities that already exist to care for the people around you.
A Challenge for Every Local Business Owner
You don't have to launch a large campaign to make a difference.
Maybe it's buying lunch for another small business.
Maybe it's partnering with a nonprofit.
Maybe it's surprising customers with an unexpected act of generosity.
Maybe it's simply choosing to support another local business before you look elsewhere.
Community is built one intentional decision at a time.
And when local businesses choose to invest in one another, everyone benefits.
